The film had been well a part of the Berlin Festival, where SRK, Kajol and Karan Johar were well-received by the international fans. Set amidst the backdrop of 9/11 US attack, MNIK has attempted to reflect the delicate love story of Rizwan Khan, who has Asperger syndrome, and Mandira. The story tells the journey of a Muslim when his lady love asks him to meet the US President and tell him that he is not a terrorist. The film portrays the sensitive issue of racial discrimination.

Back home, SRK was caught in the web of Shiv Sena due to his support for Pakistani players and his suggestions to include them in IPL team. After the uproar which followed the incident Shah Rukh aired his thoughts saying that he gets disturbed and scared and emotionally hurt when things like this happen.

Talking about an interesting titbit about the star, very few know about his most prideful possession – His country. His father who came from Peshawar was the youngest of the freedom fighters and when he went to jail. Shah Rukh always takes pride to say that his father gave this country to him as a gift, for, he fought for the country.
