Super star Rajinikanth’s yesteryear runaway success ‘Mappillai’ is now remade with Dhanush in the lead. Produced by Nemichand Jhabak the film will be directed by Suraaj. The story of the film goes like this- the hero will fall in love with the heroine and will marry her against the wish of the heroine’s mom. Then a cold-war starts between the mom in-law and the son-in-law and who wins the fight is ‘Mappillai’ all about.

In the original version, late actress Srividya played the character of villainy mom-in-law. It’s said that the director was trying to rope in eminent actress like Kushboo, Nadhiya, Vijayashanthi, Tabu and Simran but in vain. None of them wanted to do this role, at last Suraaj approached Anu Haasan and the actress agreed with a few conditions.

Know what? Anu’s condition is that she wants her costumes to be modern. Suraaj was more than delighted to grant her wishes coz, it is how he has scripted the story itself- A modern mom-in-law!
