Director Madhur Bhandarkar has been left with a sour taste in his mouth thanks to the recently announced nominees for the IIFA awards 2009. Bhandarkar's Fashion, a movie about the highs and lows of the fashion world, earned him a Best Director nomination but wasn't nominated for Best Picture! The director points out that his competitors in the category had their pictures nominated for Best Picture but his Fashion was left out.
Bhandarkar has dismissed the snub saying that this has happened to him before. In fact the critically acclamied Chandni Bar was also overlooked by most of the popular awards. But the film won three National Film Awards. Refusing to speak further on the topic, Bhandarkar is focusing on recovering from the shooting of his film Jail. The movie, which stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, was shot in the unforgiving heat of Kajrat. Reportedly many unit and cast members suffered intense dehydration and sunstrokes while filming. The epidemic was so bad that the director had to retain a doctor. Now Bhandarkar only wishes that Neil gets recognised for his efforts in Jail and wins a National Award for the movie.
