The eighties saw maestro Ilayaraja sing many duets and almost all of them went on to become big time hits. It is interesting to note that after all these years, the maestro is up to it again.

A song in the film 'Azhagar Malai' titled "Karugamani karugamani, kazhuthil aadudhadi…" is a duet and features the voice of Ilayaraja along with that of a female singer from Mumbai. The film is produced by Sangili Murugan whose 'Kadhalukku Mariyathai' went to become a great hit. All the songs of the film have the capability to stand the test of time.

With 'Azhagar Malai', Sangili Murugan is hoping to recreate the same magic and the maestro is up to it.

Ilayaraja who was very choosy with his projects for about a decade seems to be on a working spree right now. He has composed music for 'Jagan Mohini' and 'Naan Kadavul' as well and for a few more untitled projects.
