Writers entering Kollywood is not a new trend. Probably it started with Sujatha and Balakumaran. While Sujatha has almost become an integral part of Mani Rathnam and Shankar’s film, Balakumaran has been working for many directors.

Following Sujatha and Balakumaran, S. Ramakrishnan, who belongs to a more serious and smaller literary circle, entered Tamil film industry. He worked as a dialogue writer in films like ‘Baba’, ‘Sandakozhi’, and ‘Bheemaa’. The writer has been quite successful in films as well. He has also written a book that introduces world cinema.

Jeyamohan

Then we had Jeyamohan, another distinguished writer from the serious literary circle. He wrote the dialogue for ‘Kasthoori Maan’. Now he is working for Bala’s ‘Naan Kadavul’ and Vasantha Balan’s ‘Angadi Theru’.

Charu Nivedita

The latest entrant is the sensational writer Charu Nivedita. He is now seen in the discussions of director Azhagam Perumal’s forthcoming venture, produced by Moser Baer.

Let us hope that these serious writers with inimitable styles would bring qualitative changes into Tamil film industry in terms of story and the treatment.
