Known to portray different roles is Madhavan aka Maddy. Celebrating his birthday Today, Madhavan has emerged a star to reckon within the industry. Emerging from the Mani Ratnam's stable, Madhavan had made rapid strides since his debut as romantic hero (Karthik) in Alaipayuthae. Madhavan never fails to thanks his mentor Mani Ratnam for helping him shape his career.

Introduced by the director in Alaipayuthae, Madhavan has played a prominent role in all his (Mani Ratnam's) subsequent films. On his association with the director, he says, "It is really 'frightening' to work with him. Since Alaipayuthae I had this fear, which came out of the respect I had for him". Having carved a niche for himself playing the lead role with ease in films like Dum Dum Dum, Minnale, Kannathil Muthamittal, Ayudha Ezhuthu, Anbae Sivam, Nala Damayanthi, Priyamana Thozhi, Madhavan successfully established himself as an angry young man of Tamil cinema with an excellent portrayal in Thambi.

Striking a right balance between classic and commercial cinema, Madhavan is currently involved in movies directed by the likes of Seeman, Nishikant Desai, Ramgopal Verma and Rituparno Gosh. He has a huge fan-following and is evident from the fact that an entertainment company, Paradox, has signed a worldwide contract with Madhavan to come out with six mobile-based games based on him and his film roles.
