Tamil films are making huge business in Kerala. In the last couple of years, almost all the Tamil films released in the neighbouring State had made good business.

The likes of Anniyan, Chandramukhi, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, Varalaru and the recent Pokiri and Aalwar are few examples.

Since this resulted in poor outing of the straight Malayalam films, the distributors of the Malayalam films met in Thiruvananthapuram and unanimously decided at the meeting that Tamil films can be released in Kerala only a few weeks after they get released in Tamil Nadu.

It may be recalled that similar resolutions were passed in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh by the film bodies. Sources say the restriction does not apply to Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Ajith films.
