'Karutha Pakshikal,' the latest offering from Mammootty, graces the theatres from today. The film is released in 38 centres all across the state. The film made in a shoe string budget tells the story of Tamil based slum dwellers, who live for years in Kerala doing petty layman jobs. Mammootty appears as Murugan, one who makes a living by ironing clothes in houses.

The film, according to the director Kamal, gives some strong messages about eye donation and social equality. The film has few songs by Mohan Sithara and also stars Padmapriya, Meena, Salim Kumar and T G Ravi.

The film is widely looked upon as a movie for elite audiences with a realistic storyline, written by the director without any masala thrown in. The film is expected to bring the lead actors, including Mammootty, accolades and awards for their myriad performances. The promos of the film itself proclaim, "Here is Mammootty like never before."
