Actor and DMDK president Vijayakanth chose to celebrate his 52nd birthday at Vridachalam, the Assembly constituency from which he was elected on Friday.

On the occasion, he launched his party's 'Garibi Hatao' scheme, which he said, was similar to the one launched by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Under the scheme, the party would distribute agricultural implements, tricycles and cash to the poor, he said.

Striking a political note, Vijayakanth lauded the performance of the DMK government during its 100 days in office and M Karunanidhi had launched various welfare schemes during this period.

To a question, he said the DMDK would not go in for an alliance with any party for the coming local body polls in the State. 'The party will go it alone,' he said.

Meanwhile, Vijayakanth is also getting ready for his Sabari, his 150th film.

So, as they say, it is all happening for the ‘Captain’.
