Come Pongal, Kollywood would witness four movies fighting for the top honors.

Aathi is a remake of Telugu hit Atanokkadae, while Silambarasan's Saravana directed by K S Ravikumar, is a remake of the Telugu hit Bhadra. Paramasivan is reportedly inspired by a Sanjay Dutt starrer in Hindi and director-producer Rama Narayanan's Pasaakiligal is inspired by a Malayalam movie.

It is very rare coincidence, observers say. But it also points to the paucity of original stories in the industry.

Director Saran's Idhaya Thirudan, being produced by K Balachander's Kavithalaya, was expected to hit theatres on Pongal day.

However, Idhaya Thirudan has been postponed to Republic Day.
