Devayani has won the admiration of women folk in the State playing a perfect 'bahu' in the mega-serial Kolangal being aired in a popular Tamil satellite channel.

However a couple of days ago, in an interview to a vernacular daily, her mother-in-law Aiyammal (mother of director Rajakumaran) has said that she was not given the due respect by Devayani and that she wants her son to establish himself in the film industry rather than be in the shadow of Devayani.

In response, Devayani has said that she respects her mother-in-law as her mom. "I give her due respect and even send her money regularly. Though I tried to bring her Chennai to live with us, since she did not like the lifestyle in Chennai she preferred to stay in the village."

Devayani suspects the handiwork of few people in the industry behind this controversy alleging that they were jealous of her success in playing the character of Abi in Kolangal.
