Normally, it's a festive time for film buffs during Tamil New Year day when a host of movies of big stars get released.

Over the years, the dominance of satellite channels and the pirated VCDs has resulted in sharp decline in number of movies releasing on festive days.

For this Tamil New Year Day, a slew of movies including Rajnikanth's Chandramukhi, Kamal's Mumbai Xpress, Vijay's Sachien, Ajith's God Father, Vikram's Anniyan and Vijayakanth's Perarasu were expected for release.

Unfortunately, one after another, movies have backed out and it seems likely that Kamal and Rajni alone would lock horns this time.

A whopping 300 prints of Chandramukhi would be released all over the State while Kamal Haasan is planning almost half of it.

Eventually, a good run for these movies would mean no theatres for movies to have a release in the coming weeks.
