Kasturi Raja's film "Dreams", starring son Dhanush, is surprisingly not one of Tamil Nadu's most anticipated Diwali releases.

After the debacle of Dhanush's two recent films, "Puthukottayilirunthu Saravanan" and "Sullan", audiences are not expecting much from "Dreams".

Raja began filming "Dreams" soon after the success of Dhanush's debut in "Thulluvatho Ilamai". Filming was abandoned when the family decided the teenager should first perform in his brother Selvaraghavan's "Kaadal Kondein", a film that became a landmark in Tamil cinema.

Hailed as the next big thing, the young star began signing films indiscriminately. In retrospect, some of these seem to have been poor decisions.

Dhanush's dream run at the box office ended with "Thiruda Thirudi". Following his recent box office disasters, the star chose to complete his father's project before taking on anything else.

One of the reasons for the jaded look of Raja's film is that most of what was in the can had to be re-shot. Dhanush has grown from being a gawky 17-year-old to a not-so gawky 22-year-old, and the physical changes are too noticeable to be ignored.

The new version film also stars Diya, who made her debut in "Kurumbu", and Mumbai actress Farool.

While both the director and the actor maintain that their film has come out well, visually the film looks ordinary. The music composed by Bharadwaj, who has also composed the hit tunes of "Vasool Raja M.B.B.S.", is sadly not much to write home about.

Dhanush claims to have two exciting films in the pipeline, Balu Mahendra's "Oru Kana Kaalam" and Selvaraghavan's "Oru Naal Oru Kanavu". But Tamil audiences are certainly not awaiting this film with the proverbial bated breath.
