A case has been registered against the Tamilnadu Governments act of granting 30% Entertainment Tax exemption for Sivakarthikeyan-Hansika starrer Maan Karate, that released last week. Though the film is doing brisk business in all centers, the case has come as a shocker to the makers since if the verdict comes in favor of the petitioner, a good share of the profits will have to be foregone as tax.
The petitioner in his application submitted to Madras High Court has reportedly mentioned that Maan Karate is not a Tamil title and also the film portrays drinking liquor as an acceptable activity. Hence the grant of tax exemption has to be nullified.
Another problem has emerged for the film with a Tamil group claiming that the film demeans Thirukural, one of the ancient literary work in Tamil and Tamil peoples knowledge about it.
