In a recent interview director K.S.Ravikumar has narrated the connection between Rana and Kochadiiyaan. Before going further please remember that Ravikumar has written the story, screenplay and dialogues for Superstar Rajinikanths upcoming film Kocahdiiyaan directed by the latters younger daughter Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin.
After completing Enthiran in 2010, Rajinikanth started working in Sultan, an animated film which should have been the debut directorial venture of Soundarya. However Rajini felt that there is something missing in Sultan and wanted Ravikumar to make a script to add as a portion of Sultan and that can be shot in live. Ravikumar with his team of assistants wrote the script with a character called Rana. When he narrated it to Rajini, the star was so impressed with the script and wanted to do it as a separate movie. Thats how the duo inaugurated the film Rana which had to be dropped due to unfortunate health complications faced by the Superstar.
After Rajnikanth returned from treatment he was keen to start Rana soon however none of his well wishers including Ravikumar was ready to make him strain that much at that time. Producer Murali Manohar came up with the idea of making a prequel to Rana. Ravikumar prepared a script by introducing a character called Kochadiiyaan as the father of Rana and narrated it to the Superstar. Superstar was super excited by the character Kochadiiyaan and also suggested Ravikumar to change the screenplay so that Kochadiiyaan character comes as a surprise element in the second half. Raikumar worked again with his team and changed the screenplay at the behest of Rajini.
This confirms that Rana character will have more screen space in first half of the film Kocahdiiyaan while Kochadiiyaan character will dominate the second. Whether Rana will be taken up after the release of Kocahdiiyaan? Well we have to wait and watch.
