Film personalities including veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan along with Samajwadi Party's general secretary Amar Singh called on Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and explained the difficulties over the recent order issued by Karnataka government that any film other than Kannada films should not be released anywhere in Karnataka for a period of seven weeks.

The delegation comprised of producers Yash Chopra, Boney Kapoor, film distributor L Suresh, who explained to the Prime Minister how economically this ban would hit the entire film industry and specifically the regional cinemas. L Suresh, representing the Tamil film industry, detailed the Prime Minister that Kamal Haasan's recent Tamil release Vasool Raja MBBS and actor Vijay's Madurey could not be released anywhere in Karnataka owing to this ban, which has resulted in huge loss.

The delegation also impressed upon the Prime Minister that the ban was in violation of the Constitution of India. Later, they also called on Information & Broadcasting Minister Jayapal Reddy and secretaries of the department over the issue.
