Surya who recently celebrated his 29th birthday is on to scaling new frontiers as an actor. After the successful portrayal of the double role in Peralagan the young actor is on to Chennaiyil Oru Mazhai Kalam. Director Gautham who gave Surya a fresh lease of life in the box office is directing this love story. Surya plays a college student. In terms of body language, dress and looks Gautham has changed Surya into a real college student. He does want the typical filmy college student who keeps saying Machi and wears one earing and chains on his neck. Surya who is doing heavy workouts in Hotel Meridian has turned out to be the guy that Gautham was looking for.

Gautam ‘s love story is about a train journey that starts from Chennai. Asin the girl in the train is going for her wedding scheduled ten days later. Surya who travels with her falls in love with her. He proposes to her and starts wooing her. The romantic interlude in the train was shot for ten days in Vizag using a real train. R D Rajshekar is the cinematographer. The film has nothing to do with Chennai or rain as the title suggests. Gautham equates the feeling of happiness to a Chennaites joy on a rainy day. Water parched Chennai experiencing rain is the state of mind that Surya experiences.

Surya will after the Gautham film shift to a film directed by Selvaraghavan and produced by director Bala. He has signed a film produced by director Sharan with Hari as director. A group of film Institute students have signed him to do a film titled Laxmi Kanthan. Surya’s real name is Sarvanan. He stayed away from films though his father Shivakumar was a reputed actor. He was running his garment export-manufacturing factory when Vasanth asked him to act in Neruku Ner because Ajit had walked out of the film. This brought Surya into films. After a few flops he came into reckoning with Nandha and Pithamaghan as an actor while Khaka Khaka established him as a saleable star. Surya’s brother Karthik who studied abroad is now an apprentice to Manirathinam. Suryah in Chennaiyil oru mazhai kalam plays the romantic hero and after KK and Ayuthu Ezhuthu attempts a non-action hero. Lets hope the public accepts him in this new avatar.
