Heres why SRK turned down DDLJ four times

Known as the king of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan has given countless memorable films throughout his illustrious career. However, if we talk about his most iconic outing, 1995 blockbuster 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' comes to mind. It is definately one of the career highlights for Shahrukh Khan but apparantly, the actor didn't realise its potential when he was offered the script.

Shahrukh declined the role of happy go lucky loverboy around four times before finally taking on the film. Scoopwhoop reported that Shahrukh admitted this in a documentary. He said, "I never wanted to do a romantic role. Because by the time I joined films I was 26. Normally romantic films meant that you started off from college and then you work your way up into romance and then run away with a girl, or committed suicide with a girl. I thought I was too old to be a romantic hero.”

SRK also believed that his transition from dark roles in 'Darr' and 'Baazigar' won't be good for him. Ultimately, his mentor Yash Chopra convinced him to take up the role.
