In the early seventies and eighties, Malayalam Cinema turned into the desi literature to convert inspiring pieces of literature into movies. And this resulted in the creation of some of the best landmark movies in the history of Mollywood. But for quite some time, Mollywood seems to forget that Malayalam literature is such a big evergreen source where they could search for any kind of stories in any genre, to built on a masterpiece work. Anyhow, Director Renjith is making one such attempt in the movie `Palery Maanikyam-Oru Paathira Kolapaathakathinte Katha.
The movie is based on a novel in the same name by T P Rajeevan, published as episodes in a popular weekly. An interesting thread about a thrilling investigation about an event that happened fifty years ago, the movie will have Megastar Mammootty in the lead, donning triple roles.
The protagonist of the movie is Haridas (Mammootty) a private detective who is back from Delhi to investigate the murder mystery of a lady named Maanikyam, which affected his life in some way or another. The whole incident happened fifty years ago and the girl was killed a few days after her marriage. The investigation into the murder was suspended at the time, due to unconvincing evidences and due to interferences from some influential persons, in power.
Haridas is assisted in the proceedings by Sarayu Sharma, (played by Gowri Munjal) a criminologist. The second role that Mammootty is playing in the film will be that of Ahmad Haji, a rich landlord, who appears in the flashback scenes. The third role of Mammootty in the movie is kept as a big secret.
Apart from these stars, the movie will also host a bunch of fresh faces, selected carefully from theatre field. The artists were offered a two week conditioning camp before they were assigned the characters to be played before camera. Also in the cast are Sreenivasan, Siddique, T Damodaran, T A Razzaq and Swetha Menon.
While Manoj Pillai is the cinematographer of the movie, Vijay Shankar does the editing. Sarath composes the music. Produced by Varnachitra and AVA Productions, `Palery Maanikyam-Oru Paathira Kolapaathakathinte Katha' will get into theatres by the last week of November.
