Primate problems are nothing new. From stealing food items to creating public nuisance, their mischief is well known. But a recent incident has crossed the lines of nuisance and mischief leading to a loss of a 16 day old baby’s life.

In Talabasta, Orissa, authorities are engaged in search for the monkey that had reportedly snatched snatched a baby and ran. The baby was sleeping near the mother following which the monkey had carried it away. The baby was found dead in a well near the home on Sunday.

Even though a case of unnatural death has been registered, it is said that the baby might have been slipped from the grasp of the monkey and fell into the well. It should also be noted that there were bruises on the child’s left hand.

Villagers have staged a protest against the Damapada Forest range for their lack of responsibilty to search the baby properly and also to check the growing nuisance of the monkeys in the region. Meanwhile,the child’s body has been sent to a hospital for post mortem to determine the actual cause of death.
