Tribal man Madhu, son of late Mallan of Mukkali Chintakki, was brutally beaten to death on February 22, 2018, by the locals accusing him of theft. According to the theft, Madhu has stolen food items from the shops in the area. The incident sent shockwaves across the nation and created huge outrage on social media. The police arrested 16 people but the hearing of the case took place nearly two years later. The government delayed the appointment of a public prosecutor and it further delayed the case. Recently, Madhu's family came to the fore with the complaint about the delay in the trial also alleging that there were attempts to influence the witness by offering money.
In a compassionate gesture, Mollywood Megastar Mammootty has extended help to the family of Madhu to run the case. Mammootty had reportedly held a meeting with Law Minister P Rajeev regarding the provision of legal aid. People from Mammootty's office will visit Madhu's house in the next few days after talks with Adivasi organizations and the minister.
