Awards, especially those based on views and public participation, carry with them an element for easy debate and controversy.

There has been any number of discussions in the past over choices for even National awards.

So little wonder that the latest Amritha Award has also run into some kind of polemics among the public.

The issue at stake is whether Navya Nair and M G Sreekumar, both highly talented in their chosen field of endeavor, deserved an award for what they did last year.

Mind you nobody is questioning their essential skill and talent.

But the award, supposedly based on SMS Gallup poll, has gone to Navya for a movie which has not been a success. On the other hand, Sreekumar has got this award when the year’s standout performer was Vineeth Sreenivasan.

So this begs the question as to how scientific and sincere is the award methodology process.
