December and the Christmas season always creates at least a couple of hits every year. Last Year it was 'Thanmaathra' and 'Bus Conductor' while this year, the race is strongly on with a variety of films into theatres. As Speed track, the film by Dileep is to join Christmas releases in a couple of days, Palunku and Baba Kalyani share the accolades for being at the top, at present.
1. 'Baba Kalyani' - Even though the great initial response that the film managed has died out in a week, the film continues to register 80 percent in smaller towns and full houses in district headquarters. Mohanlals astonishing performance and the director Shaji's fast paced narration are the key to the film's success. The film is expected to maintain this collection at least for another week.
2. 'Palunku' - As usual by Blessy, the film is well made and the growing mouth publicity has helped the film to become steady in collections in a couple of days. It is another family based film with a subtle message. Mammootty will also be very happy to have a nice hit at the end of the year, which hardly proved any good for him. The debate is on among the film lovers on which among the three is Blessys best?
3. 'Smart city' - Taking everyone by surprise, Smart City hardly become the usual action packed movie by Sureshgopi. Debutant director B Unnikrishnan, tried not to follow down the well-trodden path, in Smart City, does a decent job on debut; to his credit, he has given Suresh Gopi a film that is a few notches above the actor's recent efforts such as Pathaka and Bada Dosth .
4. 'Notebook' - The natural rush into the cinemas, was to watch this much talked about Roshan's brave new attempt at Rs. 3 crore. Even though the film hardly did mange to satisfy the audience, the all new star cast infuses energy into their roles .However, the plus points of the film are the camera of C.Divakar and the songs tuned by Majo Joseph.
5. 'Yes, your honour' - The Sreenivasan factor has worked in film's favor which is entering its fifteenth day this week. It is not a bad film to watch at least once, especially because it reiterates values and ideals that have been eroded.
The other films which still find it hard to make business includes 'Oruvan' a well made film which is on loses primarily due to worse marketing and a bad week for a release.
