What happens when you encounter writer's block while writing your first book? This forms the crux of director Ranjith's new film Kayyoppu with Mammootty playing the lead role.

The movie features Mammootty in the role of a writer and Mukesh in the role of a publisher. Mammootty, who had played similar roles in few movies like Aksharangal, Sukrutham, Kareelakattu Pole among others, says, ‘Kaiyoopam features me in a different perspective, which I never did before’.

Ranjith is experimenting a lot with the project. It is a 90-minute film to be shot in just 15 days at a low budget. Khushboo plays Mammootty's wife in the movie.

The film also stars Nedumudi Venu, Mamukkoya, Anoop Menon, Neena Kurup, Kozhikode Narayanan Nair, Nilambur Aisha and a newcomer Lakshmi. It is written and produced by Ranjith.
