"Nerariyan CBI", the fourth sequel of Mammootty's all-time hit film "Oru CBI Diary Kurripu", could enter the Guinness Book of Records, says the superstar, because it is the first such film to have the same director, scriptwriter and lead actor all four times.
"I believe that a fourth sequel with the same director, scriptwriter and me playing the central character is a world record," Mammootty told IANS during a chat here.
"There have been James Bond films in the past, but there, except for the character, the people behind the films were different," he said.
The film's producers have not as yet approached the Guinness authorities as they are busy wrapping up shooting for the film, which is slated for release next month.
The first film, released in 1987, was scripted by S.N. Swamy, directed by K. Madhu and had Mammootty playing the role of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer Sethurama Iyer.
"Each of the four films has themes which are not at all identical with the only similarity being that the CBI is investigating. The present film is one where the crime is committed by a supernatural character. I am sorry I can't give you any more details," said Mammootty.
The second sequel came out in 1991 and was titled "Jagratha". Then after 12 years in 2003 came the third sequel "Sethurama Iyer CBI" and it was a smashing hit.
"This film has no major role for a heroine because it is a thriller. It is expected to leave the audience on the edge of their seats," added the veteran.
"I have a day's shooting for the film and then it would be complete and would be ready for release next month during the Onam season."
Among the others in the film are Mukesh, Jagathy, Thilakan, Nedumudi Venu and Gopika.
