Mammootty is known to be a passionate car lover. He is known to have a rare collection of cars in his garage. The actor has now expressed interest to buy India's first ever Maruthi car. The car was owned by a Harpal Singh who worked at the Indian Airlines. It was presented to him by the then Prime Minsiter Indira Gandhi on winning a lucky draw.

Since his and his wife's demise, the car has been lying abandoned and it has started to rust. Mammootty says that the car breaths history and that it was this matchbox like car which revolutionsied the Indian roads back then. He says that this car is probably the one that made cars a reality for the common man. There are reports of the car being taken over by Mauthi itself. However, the actor is still waiting to see if he can somehow own it.
