French award for Nandhita

Actress-turned-director Nandita Das has been conferred with one of the highest civilian awards of France for her contribution to Indo -french cooperation in cinema. The actress received the much coveted 'Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, from French Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont last week. The honour was announced to Nandhita three years back, but due to commitments, the ceremony got delayed. The actress said that she feel more happy to receive the award now as she has now got an eight month old son who could witness his mother getting the honor.

Nandhitha Das known for her performances in films like "Fire", "Earth" and "Bawander", had also been in Malayalam films like 'Kannaki' and 'Punaradhivaasam'. Her debut feature as a director 'Firaaq'- based on the Gujarat riots was also noted in many film festivals across the world
