South cinema sweeps National awards

Mollywood cinema scored best in the 55th National film Awards announced today. While Adoor Gopalakrishnan fetched the best director award for his ‘Naalu Pennnungal’, director Priyadarshan's ‘Kanchivaram’ was named the best feature film.

‘Kanchivaram’ a realistic movie about the tale of a non political who turns into a revolutionary leader also won for its lead actor Prakash Raj, the award for the best actor. While Kannada actress Umashree was named the best actress for her portrayal of the lead character in Gulabi Talkies, Shah Rukh’s Chak De India was named the best in overall entertainment.

Ouseppachan was adjudged the best music director for Ore Kadal, while Pattanam Rasheed got the award for best make-up for Pardesi. B. Ajit was named best editor for Naalu Pennungal. Shyam Prasad's ‘Ore Kadal’ was named the best regional film.
