As expected the superstar films of the season started off with flying colors in the box office. The top five movies in the hit charts are:

1.'Kurukshetra' - The biggest release ever in Mollywood, ‘Kurukshetra' is keeping its spirits high with good initial collections and good word of mouth. The movie is expected to creative collection records in the opening weeks. In many of the metros the film is being shown in three centers while seven towns have the movie in two centers. The movie is currently entertaining packed houses in around 111 centers. Mohanalal is again into one of his best role’s in recent times, living as colonel Mahadevan.

2. 'Mayabazaar'- After a big first week, the interest shown on the film is gradually coming down. The Mammootty factor is the only positive thing in the movie which is already written off by the critics as a bitter movie. Majority of the viewers are in the view that the unimpressive scripts by TA Razaaq have spoiled the entire proceedings. The movie is registering 60-80 percent collections in major centers. The great opening week collections due to the continuous holidays, and release in eighty odd centers will help the movie to end up in between an average earner and a hit.

3. ‘Parthan Kanda Paralokam' - Another movie that is handicapped by inane scripting, 'Parthan Kanda Paralokam' benefits majorly due to its timing of the release. The movie which has been shifting its release for the last six months now had opened to safe collections due to the continuous holidays and celebration mood of Ramzan and then Pooja holidays. This Jayaram starrer will also end up as an average earner.

4. ‘Veruthe Oru Bharya’ - Jayaram’s return movie 'Veruthe Oru Bharya’ is still holding to fourth position, even after two months in theatres. The movie continues in select theatres all across Kerala, and is expected to end up as a mega hit.

5. ‘Thirakatha' - Renjith’s flick on tinsel town had very good word of mouth. But the movie, even after great reviews didn't got lucky to end up as a hit. The movie makers will have to satisfy themselves, as the movie will get to safer side of collections for its producers. ‘Thirakkatha’ is now into its fifth week

Also running in the theatres are Jayaraj's ‘Gulmohur’, Lenin Rajendran's ‘Rathri Mazha' and Madhupal's ‘Thalappavu' with average collections.
