It was a performance to cherish. Priyamani's portrayal of a southern rural belle 'Muthazhagu' has got national recognition in the form of the highly prestigious National Award for the year 2006 in the best actress category.
ÂParuthi Veeran had a refreshingly woven screenplay about the lives of a 'don't care attitude' rustic ruffian played by debutant Karthi (actor Suriya's brother) and his unconventional love affair with childhood sweetheart Muthazhagu.
Both characters in the backdrop of a drought hit rural village went on to become instant hits with audiences all around Tamilnadu. The dialogue modulation of Karthi complimented Priyamani's character in a big way.
Director Ameer, who needs to be credited for a stupendous narration and building up of the characters burnt the midnight oil for this production and was literally behind the actors to perform as he wanted them to.
Priyamani had worked with Balu Mahendra for the movie 'Adhu Oru Kanaa Kaalam'. Though the movie didn't do too well at the box office her performance was appreciated.
The climax shots of 'Paruthi Veeran' saw Priyamani at her very best. She played a gang rape victim, who had been severely injured on her head. Scenes that can move even the stone hearted to tears.
An elated Priyamani said, ÂIt is a dream come true experience for me. I am still flying high. I thank my director Ameer for helping me achieve this rare honorÂ.
Priyamani added, 'I never expected that ÂParuthi Veeran would go on to get me an award. I performed what Ameer wanted me to do'.
ÂI thank all my co-stars and crew for helping me achieve this featÂ, she said and added, ÂMy mentors director Bharathiraja and Balu Mahendra deserve a special mention".
ÂI feel I should be more choosy and select my roles with care in the coming days. I vouch to continue my work and contribute the best for a movie's successesÂ, she added.
Paruthi Veeran's editor Raja Mohammad has won the National Award as Best Editor.
Thanking director Ameer, he said, "I made my debut in 'Nala Damayanthi' and 'Paruthi Veeran' is my 20th film. I thank all my crew for the success".
Indiaglitz congratulates National Award winners, Priyamani and Raja Mohammad and wish them stupendous success in the future.
