After a few months of chart toppers, that essentially was a star film, this week end witnesses a brand new film with younger stars on top. Johnny Antony's Cycle starring Vineeth Sreenivasan and Vinu Mohan has made surprising initials and is on first spot in the very second week of its release. The top five Malayalam films of the weekend are:
1. Cycle - Vineeth Sreenivasan's debut film as an actor, is making waves as it is receiving the same overwhelming responses from all over the state. This refreshing, edge of the seat thriller, directed by Johnny Antony and written by James Albert of Classmates fame, also features Vinu Mohan, Sandhya and Bhama in the lead.
2. Roudram - Mammoottys cop film is continuing with its success ride even in the fourth week with steady collections. The film, already a hit, has reached break even point and has started making profits for its distributors. The weekend shows register hundred percent collections all over the state, while the week days are registering 50-70 percent collections.
3. College Kumaran - Director Thulasidas with another outing with Mohanlal doesnt prove to be a winner. The movie just continues in the theatres with around 40 percent collections in major centers.
4. Calcutta News - Blessy's biggest film in term of budget, and visual impact is also expected to become his biggest failure in box office. The film in its fifth week doesnt even collect like average Dileep flick. But collections are better in bigger cities where the family audiences are supporting the movie.
5. Sound Of Boot - This Suresh Gopi starrer directed by Shaji Kailas slips down to the fifth position, even in its third week. The film showed good technical finesse and narrative styles, but sadly didnt appeal to the majority of the masses.
'Katha Parayumpol' still maintains its audience pull at 30-40percent in major centers, where it is entering 65 days. The other major release of the week Anthiponvettam', starring Arun and Saiju, has opened to average collections.
