The box office opening of 2008 is certainly not throwing up any surprises. The very first films that were released in the second week of the month ‘Of The People' and 'Novel' had a disappointing run, with an opening to a below par response. The films left all the release centers in January itself leaving the producers, no chance to revive the money. But the real money spinner of the month was 'Katha Parayumpol' released in the last week of December.

The film maintained 70%-80% collections all through the month, continuing in almost all the release centers. Prithviraj's 'Kangaroo' also did moderate business in the month and both these films are completing their fifty days, next week.

Mohanlal's Christmas release ‘Flash’, was another damb squib which fell flat on January. The film makes a forced run in a lone center in the capital city. Dileep's 'Romeo’ also had a fair run till the second week of January, after which the film lost its momentum.

The third weekend saw the release of much awaited ‘Calcutta News’, which by all expectations after its release, will fare much lesser than every other Blessy films. With the stupendous opening of Mammooty's 'Roudram' and Mohanal's 'College Kumaran' on the 31st of January, the fate of 'Calcutta News' not seems much brighter even though a speedy revival is an absolute must and the most expected one, by the connoisseurs of good cinema.

Even though the film's narratives is not up to the mark , expected from some one like Blessy, the visuals and the good music works extremely well for the film and one expects that these factors may work together to help the film , to sail towards safety.
