The shooting of Pazhassi Raja, directed by Hariharan, scripted by M T Vasudevan Nair and produced by Gokulam Gopalan is progressing fast. The film narrates the story of a battle for independence.

The film brings back Hariharan, Nair and Mammootty after a gap of two decades, their last being Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha.

According to Hariharan, “We felt that Pazhassi Raja had not got the recognition it deserved, especially outside Kerala, for his contribution to the freedom movement. The 1857 Sepoy Mutiny is considered the first freedom fight, but Pazhassi Raja fought the British 50 years before that, in the jungles of Wayanad. My film is about how he fights the British by organizing a tribal force in Wayanad and how he gives up his life for the cause”.

Kanika plays Pazhassi's wife. Padmapriya plays a tribal opposite Manoj K Jayan. Popular Tamil actor Sarath Kumar plays the commander-in-chief of Pazhassi Raja.

Other casts include Jagathy Sreekumar, Urmila Unni and many others. Venu handles the camera. The film also has artistes from Hollywood and Britain.
