Sathyaraj's Periyar, the flick on the revolutionary leader of Tamil Nadu, will hit the screens on 1 May. The grand premiere of the movie would be held at Malaysia in the presence of Malaysian Minister Dato Samivelu on the Labors Day.

The movie directed by Gnanarajasekaran has generated a lot of interest since the Tamil Nadu government came forward to co-sponsor the production.

A sum of Rs 95 lakh was granted by the government towards the cause. Kushboo plays Maniammai while Jyothirmayi is cast as Nagammai in the movie, which has musical score by Vidyasagar and cinematography by Thangar Bachchan.

Plans are on to dub and release the movie in various Indian languages. Expectations are high on the movie and buzz is that the title role played by Sathyaraj would bring him enough laurels and awards too.
