Mammootty, the badshah of box office in Kerala celebrates his birthday today. It's a perfect occasion for Mammootty to celebrate for his Onam release Bhargava Charitham Moonam Kandam is doing brisk business.

Lawyer by qualification, Mammootty has always wanted to be an actor. He made his debut with 'Devalokam'. However it was Vilkanundu Swapnangal, which brought him recognition. Thanks to director K.G. George, Mammootty acted in slew of films including Valarthumrigangal, Yavanika and Aadaminte Vaariyellu etc.

Having worked with the likes of Adoor Gopalakrishnan, M T Vasudevan Nair, Lohitadas, and Mammootty’s subtle and realistic portrayals won him stardom.

Mammootty touched higher pinnacles of his career in Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Mathilukal. They won him national award for best acting. His superb acting in TV Chandran's Ponthan Mada, another art movie, won him the national award for a third time.

Some of his memorable films include Taniavarthanam, Sukrutham, Yathra, Kanamarayathu, Midya Oru CBI Dairy Kurippu, Hitler, Videhyan, Mrigaya, Amaram and Valsalyam.
