Mammootty is again capturing headlines with his persistent interest in the welfare activities of the needy. The actor who was busy last week working for the eradication of street begging and helping to rehabilitate the street children has agreed to his fans association to use his name to help a leading eye hospital to conduct eye-camps in the state.

The association will join hands with the Little Flower Hospital in Angamaly, one of the premier hospitals in the state, to organize eye camps across Kerala and will provide free treatment to the needy. The new venture with Mammootty has landed a grant of Rs.10 million from a United Nations for the project and many NGO's are to be a part of the entire movement. This is one of the welfare activities taken up by this association.

'I strongly feel that a fans association is not just meant to sit and whistle in theatres with the release of the films. In my case, they are into welfare activities because I know that whistling alone will not get the audience to watch a film,' said Mammootty.
