Mohanlal has denied reports appearing in various sections of the media that he declined the offer to act in actor Rajinikanth's Sivaji since the producers of the movie (AVM) were not ready to pay a huge sum as remuneration as demanded by him.

According to Mohanlal, 'director Shankar wanted dates for one full month without any break to play a negative role in the movie. With a few projects in Malayalam already on the floors, it was extremely difficult for me to venture to Tamil to do Sivaji. Hence I promptly declined the offer to act in the movie'.
