Many have pointed out that a joke at the expense of the tribals in the recently released 'Peruchazhi' is in bad taste. The dialogue, which is uttered in a derogatory manner and which is an insult to the Attapady tribals, has not gone down well. Though the dialogue is not uttered by the star, he has been implicated for being part of such a venture.

The popular opinion is that such a dialogue could have been avoided and that the mindset needs to change. Moreover, some theatre goers are appalled at the response it evoked in the theatre, with many cheering and laughing over the dialogue. The dialogue was also mentioned by ace director Dr. Biju, who took a dig at Mohanlal, comparing it with a reference to Aaram Thamburan` and the feudal tones in its dialogue.
