Superstar Upendra might have done action films as hero but he is the one who set a new trend in underworld film as director from 'Om' starring Shivarajkumar. He based his subject in 'Om' on real life don and after years of it he is now appearing in the role of real life don 'Masthappa' the first underworld don of Karnataka.

This is the film titled as 'Maasthi' that went in to controversy and new title is on the look out by director Shivamani. But the contents of the film remain same. Upendra in the lengthy hair style get up appeared for the maiden shot that was flagged off by Shivarajkumar. Upendra gave the underworld don image on screen for Shivarjkumar as director in ' Om' and today Shivrajkumar is flagging off the film with underworld subject starring Upendra.

I have accepted this film after hearing the single line story. Then after knowing some of the scenes in the film I told producer Ramu that it will not be difficult to adjust dates for this film said Upendra who was looking uncomfortable on the muhurut day of the film with a new get up. The shooting will be held in Bangalore, Hassan, Mantralaya, Kurnool and Hyderabad explained Shivamani.
