Perhaps no one like S Narayan raised to the scale of success in the last three decades of Kannada cinema. Surpassing the difficult days till 1990 S Narayan said 'Yes' to many facets of film making and showed his exemplary discipline and right attitude. The poverty stricken early life, value for money and value for humanity have brought this gem of a personality to the solid status today. He is heading for 50th film direction in 2014.

Actor, writer, director, producer, exhibitor, distributor, music director – all rolled in to one S Narayan is making preparations for his 50th film direction by 2014 but in the meantime he spoke on his life besides cinema in a quick chat recently at Renukamba Digital studio on last Saturday evening.

I have gone through very difficult days and observing people and happenings in my surroundings helped me considerably.

I maintained simple attitude and living. My only wish to live happy life with family and eat good food. I am not after anything in life – properties; gold, expensive purchases are not to my liking.

I wear Rs.200 worth watch and shirt is also of same value. Not spend on foot wears. Not go to parties. No habits of smoking, liquor etc in my life.

At the age of 12 I used to sit in the temples and watch people coming and going. The change of standards of so many by one God has moved me a lot. Such reality check in my life helped me to make a standard in my life.

When I turn back I feel whether I have really directed 45 films in life. Munjane is 45th film, Appayya is 46th film, Chowdaiah launching on March 2 is 47th, Darshan starrer film is 48. I think by the beginning of 2014 I will be taking up 50th direction.

I have a very simple wife Bhagyavathi and she looks after the management of the house. My eldest son Pankaj is satisfied with food and he is going strong in cinema as actor. My daughter Vidyasri is taking up IAS examination. She has completed MA post graduation. Pawan studying BBM in MS Ramaiah College (Pankaj and Pawan are twin brothers) is staunch Kannada film viewer. He sees almost all Kannada films. Gives me verdict. He is an introvert.

Recently the back ache bothered me a lot. The shooting of 'Appayya' I have done with the severe pain. I used to cry with the pain and my discipline was at stake from this pain.

On March 2, 2012 – I am launching 'Chowdaiah' Ambarish as representative of 'Humanity'. The launch is at the residence of Ambarish in JP Nagar at 6.30 am.

I intend to release the film 'Chowdaiah' (grandfather of Ambarish name – a famous violinist T Chowdaiah) on May 29th -60th birthday of the pride of Kannada cinema.

For Munjane the post production work has consumed more time. For two months for the slow motion songs nearly 70 persons have worked. I am expecting a hat trick with Golden star Ganesh. He is an actor with tremendous potentiality.
