Kannada cinema - 15% success in 2011

The Kannada filmdom is three short of last year 127 films in 2011. Out of 124 films released till 23rd December the success rate in general is around 15 percent. Thanks to satellite rights that have come to Kannada cinema. Rs.100 to Rs.150 crores have from this avenue that is biggest so far with 'Paramathma' gaining the highest television rights.

Out of 124 films released the film that reached the comfortable position are – Sarathi and Boss of Darshan, Kempegowda and Vishnuvarfdhana of Sudeep, Hudugaru and Paramathma of Puneeth Rajakumar, Yogish and Srinagara Kitty, Sanju Weds Geetha of Srinagara Kitty, Johny Mere Naam of Vijay, Krishnan Marriage story of Ajy Rao, Kal Manja of Komal Kumar, Bhadra of Prajwal Devaraj, Kalla Malla Sulla of V Ravichandran, Ramehs Aravind and Vijay Raghavendra, Sadhu Kokila '90', Diganth starring 'Lifu Ishtene', 'Kirataka' starring Yash.

That means 15 of 124 films in 2011 for investment made almost double profit. The top grosser is Darshan's 'Sarathi' of the year.

Among the heroines Deepa Sanniidhi is debutant notable heroine, Ramya had two hits Johny Mere Naam and Sanju Weds Geetha and one failure Dhandam Dashagunam, Ragini in Kempe Gowda, Radhika Pandit in Hudugaru, Nidhi Subbaiah in Krishnan Marriage Story, Mallu heroine Bhavana sparkled in 'Vishnuvardhana'.

Rishika Singh in 'KMS', Ramya in Johny Mere Naam and Ragini in 'KMS' lit the screen on fire with powerful song numbers too in the year 2011.

Among the younger lots those who made their presence are Srikanth and Akanksha, director Jayatheertha and cameraman Ravikumar Sana from 'Olave Mandhara', Pawankumar from Lifu Ishtene, Pradeep Raj in Kirataka shined. Among the debutants the biggest dash against success was for 'Aata' – Rs.5 crore venture for producer Shailendra Babu.

Seniors have fared badly in the year – Shivarajakumar Jogaiah 100th film was the biggest flop of the year. Vijay had three flops – Jarasandha, Kanteerava and Veera Bahu. Golden star Ganesh had three flops – Madhuve Mane, Kool Sakkath Hot Maga and Shyloo. Diganth is with maximum flops like Putra, Tare, Kanchana, Mr Duplicate and Jolly Boy. Lifu Ishtene was in the average hit list. Amoolya 'Manasalogy' fared badly.

'Bhadra' was a slight consolation for Prajwal Devaraj. His other films like Kote, Mr Duplicate and Murali Meets Meera crumbled. Yogish had one good in 'Hudugaru' and his Dhool and Devadas were not cool in the box office.

Ramesh Aravind was convincing like Vijaya Raghavendra in Kalla Malla Sulla but both of them had flops too. Rangappa Hogbitna was utter flop for Ramesh Aravind while 'Shravana' was disaster for Vijaya Raghavendra.
