From the beginning, Vijayendra Prasad has been telling us that the hero in Rajanna puts up a fight against the cruel Razakars. Revealing a good chunk of the story, Nagarjuna, speaking to the media, has narrated how he goes on the revolutionary path in the film. If anything, the writer has his stamp on the story for good measure.

Having fought with the British, Rajanna and his cohorts – comprising of a Muslim, a Maharashtrian, a Tamilian and a Punjabi – are all set to return to their respective places. Much to his shock, Rajanna finds that liberation has not come to his town, Nelakondapalli in Adilabad district, which is still under the evil grip of the Razakars. He is aroused to take up the cudgels and inspire revolutionary zeal in the masses, who are used to be in servitude to the barbarians. The meek villagers are radicalised by the heroic Rajanna to wage the war for freedom.

Nagarjuna is playing a difficult character in the film. He is the leader of the masses, whom people from hundreds of villages start following.

The movie has been meticulously shot under the aegis of the best technicians. Several hair-raising moments and never-heard-before dialogues are part of the film. For example, the Punjabi freedom fighter says that he wishes that a boy is born to his wife so that he can name the child after Rajanna. The revolutionaries are so infected by the patriotic zeal of Rajanna that they fear none – even death – and are ever ready to attain martyrdom.
