She played a shy girl in 'Dabangg' and one hardly saw the naughty side of hers. However for 'Joker', Sonakshi Sinha was sure that she wanted to get rid of her coy image. So the moment director Shirish Kunder explained to her that she had to get into a 'jhatak-matak' mode for one of the special songs in the film, Sonakshi was game for it. Results were there to be seen as she surprised everyone with her moves.
Informs a senior crew member, "She was appreciated in 'Dabangg' but didn't have a massy song to her credit. All she had to her credit were a couple of love songs but when it came to 'seetis' and 'taalis', it was Malaika Arora who walked away with all the honours, courtesy 'Munni Badnaam Hui'. Somewhere deep down her heart, Sonakshi felt that she also wanted to be a part of similar action where she could let her hair down and win a far bigger fan base for herself."
This is where 'Joker' came in handy as Shirish promised her a dance number and also promised to present her in a different light altogether. The song is titled "Dance Karle English Mein" is the same track which has been much talked about as it comprises of lyrics in in ten languages. Also, if the adjoining picture is any indication, Sonakshi definitely seems to be having some fun times.
When contacted, Shirish made light of any comparisons with 'Dabangg', 'Munni' or Malaika.
"It was a different movie and ours is different. You just can't start making any comparisons for the sake of it," says Shirish, "Every film has it's own subject requirements and 'Joker' has it's own. 'Dance Karle English Mein' isn't a song that has been injected into the movie as an item number. It is there because it takes the story forward. We are not trying to replicate 'Munni' here."
General perception about Sonakshi is that she is a bit restricted when it comes to her on-screen portrayal and has a set of guidelines around do's and don'ts.
"On the contrary she wanted something as 'desi' as this for her," Shirish denies that he had to make any additional effort to convince Sonakshi for the job, "She freaked out on hearing the song. We all saw a new side of her when she hit the floors."
