Even though only a few films managed to harvest big collections from the box office, most of the recent releases have good songs with them. With talented musicians like Ouseppachan, Debjyoth Misra and Mejo Joseph giving music to the albums and films, the season echoes the emphasis on inspiring melodies. The top five Malayalam songs are:
1. Varnapainkili - Film: Cycle; Music: Mejo Joseph; Lyrics: Anil Panachooran; Singer: Vineeth Sreenivasan.
The singer is for the first time proving his emoting and dancing skills in this fine song shot stunningly at Singapore. Mejo Joseph, after an year from his debut film ''note book'' comeback to produce some notable music for the film.
2. Kanakuyilin' - Film: College Kumaran; Singers: Sujatha, Venugopal; Music: Ouseppachan
Though the film is quite a loser at the box office, the soulful music of the film has managed to climb the charts. This slow and soft number particularly in the voices of Sujatha and Venugopal is an engrossing fare.
3. Kannadi Kottile - Film: Calcutta News; Music: Deb Jyothi Misra; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Chitra, Vanitha and Vijitha
This is an interesting song with some great visuals from S Kumar. Debjyoth's sweet, soft captivating tunes, sensitively combines tradition, with a pleasant beats.
4. Snehathin Koodonnu - Film: College Kumaran; Music: Ousepachan; Lyrics: Shibu Chakravarthi; Singers: Karthik and Aparna. A token song from the movie, it is a typical Mohanlal song with a dancing group around him, but, this time it is a bunch of college students.
5. Puthiyoreenam - Film: Cycle; Music: Mejo Joseph; Lyrics: Anil Panachooran; Singers: Karthik and Vineeth Sreenivasan.
This New Year song and its related sequences are crucial link in the film that catapulted it to a big success.
