Looks like the filmmaker’s time has not yet come to finalise about the lead hero of his much-delayed film - on the historical love story of Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani. Of late speculations were rife that Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in to play the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project ‘Bajirao Mastani’. However sources close to the stars denied the news saying that SRK has not signed the project and he is currently busy with Farah Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’. While those of Bhansali’s side clarified that he has not readied the script yet.

Story so far is that - Sanjay Leela Bhansali, since the times of ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ had been planning to bring out his close-to-heart film ‘Bajirao Mastani’. At that time he wanted to bring the then iconic lovers Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai but after their infamous break up the director dropped the idea. He revived it again after ‘Devdas’, keeping Shah Rukh Khan in mind.

Unfortunately the film, yet again met with a road block, following the fall out of the filmmaker and SRK in 2007 - owing to their respective films ‘Saawariya’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’ clashing at the box office same day; leading to verbal tussle between them and finally breaking the ties. They shook hands later two years back (2012) at a movie event.

According to sources, recently when SLB was busy with his film ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela ‘Ram-Leela’ he had approached Ajay Devgn for playing Bajirao. And latest it was heard that Bhansali had SRK coming to him and asking him if the project offer is still open for him, as he is now interested in doing the film. Incidentally buzz was also that Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif were considered for the female leads. But all these news about are said to be false.
