30 Percent Success in 2013

The year that was 2013 was filled with number of releases, controversies, developments and deaths. The notable aspect was good success rate in the year 2013.

It is 30 percent success as over 30 plus Kannada films were in the driver’s seat out 130 films released in the last year. The young team doing superb from films and taking attention has happened. The zamana of internet media especially ‘You Tube’ has helped the newcomers.

The best newcomer of the year is director and producer Suni from ‘Simple Agi Ondh Love Story’ that was rocking in the box office. For Rs.1.5 crore investments the film made a business of over Rs.10 crores. The hit pair of the year Rakshit Shetty and Shwetha Srivatsav from the film plus new music director BJ Bharath have got maximum of attention.

A film with budget of Rs.18 lakhs ‘6-5=2’ grabbed maximum attention and collected a few crores for the maker. Similarly the big budget movies like Bul Bul and Brindavana of Darshan, Bachchan of Kichca Sudep, Bhajarangi of Shivarajakumar, Chetan Kumar Myna, Prem Kumar Charminar, medium budget films like ‘Victory’ of Sharan, Raaja Huli and Googly of Yash, Ninasam Satish ‘Lucia’ performed well in the box office.

In the list of successful films –Jayammana Maga, Shravani Subramanya, Varadanayaka, Veerappan Attahasa, Devraane, Padhe Padhe, Veera, Jataayu, Madarangi, Aane Pataki, Election, Auto Raaja, Chandra, Chella Pilli, Whistle, Silk Sakkath Hot Maga, Agamya, Shatru, Brindavana, Jatta, Jeethu, Chaddi Dosth, Dyavre are the films that comforted the producers.

The best new faces of the year are Shwetha Srivatsa of Simple Agi Ondh Love Story, Rachita Ram of ‘Bul Bul’. Shruthi Hariharan did well in ‘Lucia’ and ‘Dyavre’. She is another shining star of the future. Among the male actors it was Krishna of ‘Madarangi’ had a good beginning in his first 100 days film.

The year definitely belongs to Darshan -‘Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna’ reached one year of screening beating all the previous records of the 80 years of Kannada cinema industry. Darshan film ‘Bul Bul’ was excellent and ‘Brindavana’ was slightly low in collection. He is the No.1 of the year no doubt.

Second top winner of 2013 was Yash as ‘Googly and Raaja Huli’ are super hits. Sudeep ‘Bachchan and Varadanayaka’ were above average. Chiranjeevi Sarja had two average films = Varadanayaka and Whistle, lovely star Premkumar had one hit in ‘Charminar’, ‘Chandra’ was average and below average was ‘Shatru’. Aa Dinagalu Chetan Kumar had one huge hit of ‘Myna’. Comedy hero turned lead actor Sharan from ‘Rambo’ super success continued his trend in ‘Victory’. It was OK for Dhuniya Vijay as ‘Jayammana Maga’ was good but not ‘Rajani Kantha’. Golden star Ganesh had one super hit Shravani Subramanya, one average ‘Auto Raaja’ and one failure ‘Sakkare’, Srujan Lokesh ‘Aane Pataki’ was average. Vijaya Raghavendra of Chellapilli was 100 days in Mangalore region. He won the ‘Big Boss’ crown. It was convincing win for Neenasam Satish in ‘Lucia’ and ‘Dyavre’.
