A Bihar Police team that had gone to Mumbai to arrest Bollywood star Sunny Deol in connection with a cheating case might return empty-handed, Police sources here said Sunday.

The sources said Doel was not in Mumbai and the team was unable to ascertain when he would return.

A Patna film distributor, Arvind Kumar, had alleged Deol's Vijeta Film Company had not returned Rs.2 million that it had taken in lieu of distribution rights of the film "Gandhi".

The film could not be completed for various reasons, but Deol did not return the money despite several reminders.

Kumar then filed a police complaint and a Patna court issued a non-bailable warrant against Deol May 26.

Deol appealed but the court rejected his plea, saying there was "substantial evidence" against him (Deol)".

The star is reportedly out of India on some personal work and his staff at his office in Mumbai claimed that they did not know when he would return.

"How long can the police team stay in Mumbai? They will be asked to return," a police official said.

Earlier this month, another Bihar Police team too had returned from Mumbai without tracing Deol, who obtained anticipatory bail that lapsed June 17.
