After ÂPyaar Ki Pungi controversy, Sriram RaghavanÂs Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer ÂAgent Vinod has attracted yet another issue. The film is reportedly banned in Pakistan by the countryÂs Central Board of Film Censors. Talks are that the decision was made after the board found several things in the film which shows Pakistan in negative light that might hurt the sentiments of the people of Pakistan. The board also mentioned that the film has references to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
However makers of ÂAgent Vinod said to have stood up for their stand stating that the film has nothing as such and they have been very cautious about not hurting anyone. To add more to justification, director Sriram Raghavan said that in fact the filmÂs lead heroine Kareena plays a Pakistani, Dr Iram Parveen Bilal while there are good people in it except one. ÂPakistan has not been shown in a bad light and this will be known to people on Friday. My film deals with today's India and Pakistan, so ISI's mention is bound to be there," Raghavan was quoted by sources.
While co-producer Saif stated that itÂs an open fact that Pakistan harbours terrorists, following which they have shown some negative aspects about Pakistan. However, he was quick to add, "But we didn't want to offend anyone and the heroine of the movie is a Pakistani, though they would be happy about that we have done the best we could. We don't want to upset Pak viewers; they are a large part of our audience.Â
But even the distributors of the film, IMGC Global Entertainment (Pvt) Ltd., are not entirely happy with ÂAgent VinodÂ. According to IMGC chairman Amjad Rashid, a film should be able to bridge the relationship between two countries and not pose be a threat to peace. Said Rashid in statement, ÂNow that India and Pakistan are extending cooperation on business fronts especially after the exchange visits of both the ministers of commerce, this can jeopardize the business progress and environments. He also said that they Âwill not entertain any movies in the future which are anti-Islam or anti-PakistaniÂ.
