Why Akshaye didn't pick any other film during 'Gali Gali Chor Hai'?

'Gali Gali Chor Hai' has pretty much arrived out of nowhere and is now all set for release today. Though the film's topical theme of corruption is pretty much being endorsed by none less than Anna, it wasn't an easy start for filmmaker Rumi Jaffery when he began casting for 'Gali Gali Chor Hai'. That's because even though he had Akshaye Khanna in mind to play the coveted role of Mr. Bharat, he wasn't too sure if the choosy actor would consent to doing the film.
"Frankly, I was in tension," smiles Rumi, "Akshaye's record is such that he is really very selective about his assignments. I know him from the past since I had written 'Aa Ab Laut Chale' where he was the leading man. We have been friends since then even though we haven't worked together. So for 'Gali Gali Chor Hai' when I narrated the subject to him, I was tense whether he would like it or not since it is a realistic comedy instead of the kind that we see quite often these days."
Fortunately for him, the meeting went off quite well as Akshaye gave thumbs-up to the script in the very first listening.
"He liked the message which the film brings with it and was so excited that he just hugged me and said yes to it," remembers Rumi, "In fact he also announced that he would work on just 'Gali Gali Chor Hai' for the time being and concentrate entirely on it instead of picking anything else. His dedication to the film can be seen from the fact that he is whole heartedly participating in an extensive all-India promotional drive that we have taken."
With Shreya Saran and Mugdha Godse as the leading ladies, 'Gali Gali Chor Hai' releases today.
