Honourable Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni today opened the 5th Film Bazaar yesterday during the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI-2011), in Panaji.

Addressing media after the inauguration, Film Bazaar at International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Soni said that NFDC has more expanded role now. It is now having Rs 100 crore turn over and NDFC is getting tremendous boost now. The film bazaar has increased in the profile and participation this year with more than 45 countries participating in Film Bazaar. Last year, NFDC went on our own to Cannes. We have been successful in synergies with Incredible India.

Soni said that there has been a demand by filmmakers to lower the entertainment tax structure in the country. 5th Film Bazaar is organized by National Films Division Corporation (NFDC).

"Indian filmmakers are complaining of the high rate of entertainment tax. Central government is trying to bring entertainment tax under one head as GST," she said, adding currently each state government hastheir own tax structures for entertainment industry.'

Stating that India is entering into co-production treaty with various countries, Soni refused that there is any possibility of extending financial help for the films produced under the treaties. "There is no financial help. We are not in a position to do it. But I do want Indian government to be sensitive towards the requirement of the industry," she added.
